This is one of the better books i have ever read, but then again i'm an avid Margaret Drabble-fan. The way she writes touches both my mind and my hart, and this novel is no exception. Just read this: "I did not realize the dreadful facts of life. I did not know that the pattern forms before we are aware of it, and that what we think we make becomes a rigid prison making us." page 7. This is art.
I guess the novel was a lot more controversial when it first was published. Writing about single motherhood 1965 was bound to be, but still the theme of the book is very interresting, particullary when you compare it with how we relate to this issue today.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
One of my favourites, hope you'll enjoy it.
What a surprise, an author I haven't heard about,I love it when that happens.
I liked this book, but to say that it is the Dickens for the twentieth-century might be stretching it a bit.
I find Rosamund a believable character - and I do think there are more like her around. People who strive to follow the trend, and to live up to what they think society expects from them. Not always easy.
I do agree though that it is:"Quite a performance having a baby!"

A kitten for you!
Enjoy.

This book was in the mail this morning. My choice in the choose-a-secret-book game on the Scandinavian forum. Margaret Drabble is new to me. How exciting!! Thank you, Haugtussa :)
I'm not sure how much I like this novel. I enjoyed parts of it, but it really drags on a bit.
