This book is in a Controlled Release!
4 journalers for this copy...
It wasn't really my cup of tea, although I cannot say it is a bad book. Plus, as a Nobel prize winner, I had to read something by Naipaul once. Hopefully someone else will appreciate it more :-)

Caught today at Green Sage Café, on to Mt TBR it goes.
I am in two minds with this story - it reads as a study in estrangement and inner exile by a somewhat troubled, deep thinking man so can be hard work for the reader at times.
However in my opinion there is no denying it is very well written.
It started its journey in Italy I wonder where it will go after resting in Templestowe since February '15!!

Picked up from the pile of books at meetup today - intrigued by the little note attached which says"started it's journey in Italy" and also interested to read a book by a Nobel Laureate.
After five and a half years on my bookshelf, I have finally read this!
A slow paced story of a life only half lived. The main character Willie just drifted through life, never really making decisions or showing any strong moral compass.
The pace of the story suited the storyline, and one could imagine the ordinariness of day to day life particularly his life in Africa. Finally, after years of inaction, Willie had no choice but to move on.
I quite liked the writing, and I am pleased to have read something by Nobel Laureate V.S. Naipaul but I would not seek out another of his books.
PS Sonnenbarke I had a wonderful 6 months living in Tocco da Casauria back in 2007/2008 and explored many of the villages in Abruzzo.
