Taster's Choice is the first book of the Chew series. This is the description on the back cover of the book:
"Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. He's been brought on by the Special Crimes Division of the FDA, the most powerful law enforcement agency on the planet, to investigate their strangest, sickest, and most bizarre cases."

First, I have to say that this is one of the grossest graphic novels I've ever encountered ... but if you're not squeamish, I highly recommend it.
Tony Chu is an Asian American detective with an unusual gift. He can sense and relive moments in the history of a food item when he bites into it. Knowing this, his superiors force him to chomp on the corpses of murder victims so that he can discover their killers.
I grew up in a Chinese restaurant, surrounded by food. I also love crime fiction and graphic novels but rarely find the two combined. This book has all the elements I love: a storyline that revolves around food, unique characters and a good mystery as well. I will definitely be reading more books in this series!

I've sent this book to Minerva101. Enjoy!
This arrived safely today and I am really looking forward to reading it! Sounds like my cup of tea ;)
Thank you so much for sending this along, mathgirl40!

This book was disgusting and I liked it!!
Despite the grossness, there is a good story in this book and the concept of contraband chicken is, quite frankly, hilarious. The art is also very good - I felt so bad for Tony every time he had to chow down on something repulsive. The facial expressions are priceless.
Thank you for sharing this with me Mathgirl40 - it was weird, but wonderful :)

I am going to the Calgary Bookcrossing meeting for the first time in about 3 months and am taking this with me to find a new reader. Hopefully it will find someone with a strong stomach ;)
Grabbed at get together last weekend, and read this morning! Great way to spend my first free morning in ages.
I love that they have chicken speakeasies!! A pretty amusing read - though I would've changed the bit with the dog and the llama... But otherwise I love the idea. Tony Chu is one unlucky guy.
Thanks for the great read!

Taking to get together~
Picked this up at the April Calgary BookCrossing meetup.
This was a really quick and fun read. The premise is original and I loved the gross out moments.
Bringing to the Calgary May BookCrossing meetup.
I picked up this book at the May 2015 Calgary meetup. All I know is chicken is contraband - that alone is almost too much to process. (What?! a world without fried chicken?!) Looking forward to the read.
Despite the grossout moments this book was great. I had a hard time following some stories (aka chapter four) but it was still hilarious. The illustrator does facial expressions so well it adds to the rediculous humour of the book.
Will be brought to the next Calgary Bookcrossing meeting and handed off.

Brought this back from the June BC meeting.
I borrowed this book off Sing-song's shelf while waiting for my raft to deflate. Returning to her today.
I loved the scene where Amelia recites her original review, looking like an innocent little girl at a recitation contest.

Very weird. Imagine being able to know what someone did by tasting their blood. Gross. funny spots but weird.
Taking this to the March meetup at Cravings Restaurant. Time for it to be passed on.
Picked this up at March's meeting. We had 10 BookCrossers and lots of books. This is being added to my TBR mountain.
Great read, I loved the premise. Not awesome for eating over the lunch hour though...
Are you in the Calgary area and interested in meeting up with other Calgary BookCrossers? Please check out our facebook group, "BookCrossing Calgary" for details on how. Meeting are held on the second Saturday of every month starting at 11am. Location is unknown, please PM me for information. New Crossers are always welcome.
Taking this to the Calgary meetup where it will go home with its next reader.

Picked up at the March meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Not my cup of tea. Used this as bingo square for "book I 50 paged".
Taken to the April meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing April meet-up. It's an odd sounding premise, and maybe a little gross, but it will be an nice change of pace from all of the superhero comics I've been reading.
I actually quite enjoyed this comic. The premise is off the wall crazy - chicken smuggling, psychic cannibalism, potentially Russian vampires (aliens?) - and I loved the stylized art. Tony is all long limbs and Savoy is this bear of a man. I have no idea where they are going with the plot, but I will happily finish off this series (which sadly came to an end in 2016). Though, best not to read this comic while eating anything.
Oh, and I thought I had heard they were making Chew into a TV show, and after some digging I found that there were plans to make a live action or an animated series, but those plans fell through. Shame, really. The cast would have included Steven Yuen, Felicia Day, and David Tennant. Oh, what could have been...

Passing on this book to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing May meet-up.
Picked this book up at the monthly book crossing meeting at Cravings Market Restaurant.
I quite enjoyed this graphic novel. I liked the dark humour that came with all the cannibalism and the story was funny and original. Highly recommend if you also enjoy some dark gross humour. Also, the artwork complimented the weird story well.
Bringing this book to the monthly Book Crossing Meeting at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Caught at local meetup.
Released into the travelling book box.
Book Box 1 is back with me. I am removing a bunch of books as part of a clean up so am journaling everything so everything is accounted for and we know which box they end up in.
This book is being released into Book Box 1.
We may not be able to meet in person but our books can still unite us.

I received Book Box 1 yesterday and devoured (pun totally intended) this book late last night! I loved it!
I initially thought that this might've been another zombie story, but it isn't, and I love how original it was. The whole idea of a cibopath, and a saboscrivner with Amelia, is such a fun concept! Well, maybe not so fun for Tony, but certainly fun for us!
I also loved that Chu was Tony's surname and Chew is the title of the series. The Chinese surnames Chu and Chew are sometimes interchangeable because they are phonetic spellings of the Chinese surname - my own father-in-law has both spellings on his official documents. I thought that was excellent wordplay.
There were so many fun things about the story - the characters, the premise, the ban on chickens, the guts and gory, the conspiracy theories, the mysteries... I'm looking forward to more!

👋👋👋 greetings mathgirl40!
