From the back of the book:
In the last weeks before D-Day American GI David Holt is stationed in Cornwall and befriended by the Carne family. Caleb Carne had become famous during the war for his inspirational broadcasts and now, nearly forty years later, David's journalist son, Simon, has been commissioned to write an article as part of Caleb's 95th birthday celebrations.
David comes to England to meet the Carne family again, and also try and find out what really happened on that terrifying last night before he left Cornwall.
