Hannah is a skilled Jewish midwife in Venice in 1575 and late at night is asked by a Christian nobleman to help his wife with her difficult delivery. It is forbidden for her to help him but she does anyway. She soon faces difficult choices and must navigate carefully.

An enjoyable and easy read: the style is not great, but the story is catchy and makes us travel agreeably in 16th century Venice and through the Jewish ghetto. Thanks again bookstogive!
