This book is a sneak attack! :D
It's off to bring a smile to a great BC'er whose sent me way too many books and snacks not to bounce back some of that fun and happiness.
Here's to a great afternoon when you find the box! ;)

Surprise gift from HI77 from my wishlist! Thank you for sending this. It's the less popular sequel, so not as likely to show up in the thrift stores and second hand bookstores.
Will read and pass along.
Following the death of his father, 13-year-old Rob tries to keep the farm going as well as hire out as a hand to neighbors to pay the monthly mortgage.
To TOC, 10/25/14.

Hm... I'm sure I read the first book, but I don't really remember it (just that memorable title). I may have to re-read that one first!
Picked up during our TOC lunch at Little Village today - thanks!

Finally re-read the first book, which is good since this one picks up pretty much right where A Day No Pigs Would Die ends.
What with his father's death, a drought, and the Great Depression, Rob doesn't really have time to be a teenager. He and his family have quite a year, and yet the story ends on a hopeful note.
The not-really-Shaker thing is still a bit odd, though.

Happy belated birthday! Sorry this is late - I'm not very organized, as you may have already realized.
Hope you had a great one.

Thanks again for sending this beautiful pair, hyphen8.
Placing this, along with "A Day No Pigs Would Die," as a package, on reserve for my Wild Things bookbox. A stretch, given my own 'rules' for the box, but the four-leggeds of various species, attitudes and treatment, are integral to the tale, integral to the growth of Rob,the young protagonist.

Releasing together with 'A Day No Pigs Would Die.' Together they will count as one selection from the WILD THINGS bookbox. After thinking I'd put this banned pair in the box because the attitudes towards other creatures drives the story forward, I pulled it when the box was too full. Now I'm adding it in again, realizing there are too many 'memoir' type animal stories, and not enough variety.

Pulled this from the "wild things" book box, as I never read this, or the first book, when I was a kid. I have found that I enjoy the quick read of a young adult novel every once in a while. Good writing is good writing!
releasing into the Wild Things book box.

The sequel for A Day No Pigs Would Die. I will keep this one for a bit and see if I can give it a read.
