This is the story of a life. Messy, complicated, but very engrossing. Dolores is an unlikely heroine, she grows up, her parents divorce, life falls apart, and she eventually moves on.
Great book.

This is also a story about loss of trust. Dolores watches as her father beats her mother, an her mother is committed to a state hospital. Afterwards, Dolores moves in with her grandmother, a taciturn religious woman of stong, narrow judgemental opinions. When her mother is released from the hospital, her father has remarried. Things come completely undone when Dolores is raped by an upstair tenant. This is the story of how she comes back from all of these losses to regain her trust in life and other people.

Fly far little book!

The story held my attention. The story is told in a manner that gives you a sense of how the bad things make Dolores feel. Amazing the author is not a woman.
