Stabat Mater

The female musicians of the Instituto della Pietà play from a gallery in the church, their faces half hidden by metal grilles. They live segregated from the world. Cecilia, is a violinist who, during anguished, sleepless nights, writes letters to the mother she never knew, haunted by her and hating her by turns. She eats little and cannot sleep. But things begin to change when a new violin teacher arrives at the institute. The astonishing music of Vivaldi, the 'Red Priest', electrifies her and changes her attitude to life, compelling her to make a courageous choice.
Going to Nakipa as a quick RABCK!
Thank you Meg72 for the book. It is travelling with me when I go back to work on Sunday. :D
This book could have been a great read if the author haven't decided to develop the story in notes sent from Cecilia to an unknown mother. It was so annoying to read it from the beginning, in each paragraph with a new letter to her mother just made me dislike her more and more.

I've never heard about this author before, what a nice way to discover it through the tasteletter. I find it very intriguing.
Thanks Nakipa!
Thanks Nakipa!
A beautiful pen, narrating the world in which Vivaldi lived and wrote his music. It was an enjoying read, but I can't help feeling that there was just not enough of it.

Hopefully it won't take too long to read it and then pass it on...

Poignant, poetic, well-written and interesting story, loosely based on real events, but quite elliptic and esoteric and lacking a decent pace too.
The first half of the book was a bit too drawn out, while second half accelarated and seemed to skim over crucial parts of the story. I found the slaughter house incident unnecesary and I'd like to get a better glimpse on how things unfolded between Vivaldi and Cecilia and how she took her final decision to "make a courrageous choice" as the blurb puts it...
A decent book, I read it in one go after all, but not great. Me too I feel something was missing here...
