Journal Entry 6 by kangaroo from Barnet, Greater London United Kingdom on Thursday, June 10, 2004
I love these books! I'm so sorry I've finished them and I have to post them on now.
But, at least they are going to lots of people who will also love them. Doesn't get much better than that.

Journal Entry 7 by Lady-Mondegreen from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, June 15, 2004
Thanks for sending - a complete suprise! Did I sign up for them? I don't remember!!!

This is an excellent follow up to The No.1 ladies detective agency. Mma Ramotswe heads a wonderful cast of characters in this delightful series of books. Easy reading, written with straightforward simplicity, it is funny and also moving.

I am going to be sending this, along with Morality for Beautiful Girls and the Kalahari Typing School for men off to WEEBLY next week (when I have finished the KTSFM!)

Journal Entry 8 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Monday, July 5, 2004
Great, thanks for these 3 books, I am looking forward to reading them.

Journal Entry 9 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, July 13, 2004
I really really enjoyed this book, really really really enjoyed it. I liked the added element of the fiance and the children.

I wish my kids were so polite - fancy taking sweets with both hands and palms up - mine snatch and eat!! It is lovely to read about the different customs, and the polite way people talk to each other. I love it and am 2 chapters into the next book in the series already!

Journal Entry 10 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 15, 2004
I am bringing this book to the unconvention to pass on to Oblivious.

I will also let my super fast reading neice read this first - she seems to read a book a day and will finish this before Saturday when I need to pass them on! She was reading the first in the series when she stayed over last night so it seemed the right thing to do to let her read it too.

Journal Entry 11 by sandyundead from Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 15, 2004
Well, since I didn't get to a computer between being given this book yesterday by Weebly and finishing it this evening - I will kill two birds with one stone, or rather make two journal entries in one :) This is a gentle read, taking you to the heart of Africa, and really giving you a feel for the characters and their lives. The detective agency is a good showcase for basic human decency - a lovely book.

Release planned for Saturday, July 17, 2004 at BCUK 2004 Unconvention @ Apres Bar, Summerrow in Birmingham, England Controlled Releases.

Handing to Oblivious1980 at the unconvention.

Sent in the post today as poor oblivious was too unwell to join the festivities. Hope you can make it next time and enjoy these books.

Journal Entry 14 by oblivious1980 from Sheffield, South Yorkshire United Kingdom on Monday, August 16, 2004
Finally got a moment to pick these up from the sorting office today! Have accumulated a bit of a stack of rings due to university but will get to them asap! Thanks!

Journal Entry 15 by oblivious1980 from Sheffield, South Yorkshire United Kingdom on Friday, September 10, 2004
What I love most about these books is that they are "nice" books, I think you have to read them to understand that I don't mean it in a derogatory way! They are heart warming and positive and they are just such a pleasure to read that I'm really sad to have come to the end of these three!

Journal Entry 16 by MarianFrench from Buxton, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Monday, December 13, 2004
All three books arrived today, thanks Marian

Journal Entry 17 by MarianFrench from Buxton, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 5, 2005
I think that these books are really great - I wish some of the values and customs of Botswana (or these novels anyway) could be transferred to this country!! The actual case takes no more than a few pages to relate but the remainder of the book is filled with wonderful scenes of Mme Ramotswe's personal and working lives. I'm looking to reading the next two before they move on.

Journal Entry 18 by laura0141 from Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom on Friday, February 4, 2005
Received with thanks.

Journal Entry 19 by Drusillamac from Glasgow, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, March 29, 2005
I had forgotten I had signed up for this ring. Thanks Kleptokitty and Laura0141 for sharing.

EDIT: I started reading this one and realised a friend lent it to me a few months ago. So I've decided to just get started on Morality for Beautiful Girls.

Journal Entry 20 by Katweeble from Towcester, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Friday, April 15, 2005
Wouldn't you just know it - wait for an age for a book and 2 turn up together! Sandy has just got back from ex mother in laws with these books! Will pass these on and keep the others to keep the ring moving!

Journal Entry 21 by perfect-circle from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Friday, April 29, 2005
Picked these up from the post office today. I'm afraid it'll be a couple of weeks before I read them as I am just about to go away. I hope this is OK.

Journal Entry 22 by perfect-circle from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 25, 2005
First of all, apologies for taking so long to read these. I find it hard to pinpoint what I love about these books. They're easy to read and utterly absorbing at the same time. I find myself lost in them and suddenly disappointed because I've reached the end of the book. The story is straightforward but not obvious, which I don't think is all that easy to do.
I will be sending this and Morality for Beautiful Girls and Kalahari typing school off probably by the weekend.

Journal Entry 23 by Fofum from Beverley, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Sunday, June 5, 2005
Arrived last week with 2 others in the series. I'll read them in order and journal again once I've done. Thanks for sending them on.

Journal Entry 24 by Fofum from Beverley, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Sunday, July 3, 2005
I am starting to really like this series of books. What a positive impression McCall gives of Botswana and its people, what an antidote to some of the distressing images we have been looking at on the television this weekend.Reading it with the Live 8 concert on in the background gave me much more than 'whodunnit' to think about:

'Mma Ramotswe wondered whether the world which this girl and her brother would inherit would be better than the world in which she...had grown up. They had grown happier, she thought, because they had seen Africa become independent and take its own steps in the world... And all the time, African people were simply trying to lead decent lives in the midst of all the turmoil and disappointment. Did the people who made all the decisions in this world, the powerful people in places like Washington and London, know about people like Motholeli and Puso? Or care? She was sure they would care, if only they knew. Sometimes she thought that people overseas had no room in their heart for Africa, because no one had ever told then that African people were just the same as they were.'

Good plot, interesting and attractive characters, lovely descriptions and a little bit of something to think about. Thank you for passing it around.

I always find when reading these wonderful books that in amongst the things that make you laugh out loud, smile, nod in agreement ... there are beautiful stop your heart moments ... times of deep meaning that can bring you to tears.
I found a very moving piece in this book about people that have died ...

"When we die, we do not leave the place we were in when we were alive. We are still there, in a sense; our spirit is there. It never goes away "

Beautiful .... many there be many more No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books.

Thanks for sharing.

Will add this to the "urgent" section of my TBR pile ........

Journal Entry 32 by wyldetwo from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Friday, October 21, 2005
Another lovely heart-warming read about the lady detective in Botswana! A very satisfying book where you just know everything will turn out okay in the end.

Also great to have a book which can be read in a couple of evenings, quite a light relief after ploughing through some weightier tomes recently!

Will send on to calalilly tomorrow with the 3rd book of the series.

Journal Entry 33 by calalilly from Waterlooville, Hampshire United Kingdom on Monday, October 24, 2005
Received from wyldetwo this morning along with Morality for Beautiful Girls. I am in the middle of Lovely Bones but I should be starting it soon.

Another enjoyable book in the series. It's good to read a detective book that's so light and that you can get through in a few evenings. Have email Kleptokitty for her address to send this and Morality for Beautiful Girls back to her to read after such a long time away.

Journal Entry 35 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Friday, November 11, 2005
Book ring book - arrived safely. Looking forward to reading these, but am going to get No 1 out from the library first (since I now have #2 and #3 it would make sense!), but since I commute 2 hours daily, it won't take long to get on to these :)

Journal Entry 36 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Sunday, December 25, 2005
Accidentally read 2 & 3 in the wrong order, which subtly spoilt some of book 2 because I knew what was going on ;) But still, a pleasant little read, and I like the way the series is developing.
