From the cover:

"Brie is in love with Lancôme Juicy Tubes, Louis Vuitton accessories, and her gay best friend Charlie, who is in love with 1960s pop art, 1980s teen movies, and serial heartbreaker Walker, who has ever only been in love with his VW Bug, until he meets Daisy . . . who is too busy hating everyone to know what love is. Set in London, this girl-loves-boy-loves-boy-loves-girl romp is set against a theatrical production of The Taming of the Shrew."

I read this book when I was 13 or so, and thought it was fluffy fun and one of the few teen books with a gay character that I found at the library. So when I saw a copy of this at the library booksale, I grabbed for Bookcrossing to introduce another teen to Manning's light, funny writing. I held onto it for a bit, thinking of re-reading it first, but my To Be Read mountain has avalanched off the bookshelves and into a sprawl that has also taken over most my floor, so I decided I'd better get this one ready to head to out.

NOTE: Ex-library copy with typical markings.

I'm taking this from the bookbox; the "Taming of the Shrew" subplot sounds rather fun!

Later: I did enjoy the story, which is told from the viewpoints of the four main characters - a method that lets us see inside the heads of characters about their own feelings, as well as about their varying perceptions of each other. It is on the fluffy side, though it touches on very real concerns of teens and young adults - friendship vs. love vs. sex, among other things. The ongoing upsets re who loves/wants whom drive most of the story, and while things get resolved - more or less - by the end, the story doesn't go for a pat pair-the-spares conclusion, though it looked as if it were going to for a while there. (This story has so many elements that would have been completely foreign to teenage me that I can't imagine how I'd have reacted to it if I'd read it then; I wasn't a social butterfly in school, and my crushes tended to be on fictional characters rather than anyone in my class!)

While I am in favor of open-mindedness re sexuality, and appreciated the range shown here, from far-end-of-Kinsey-scale to "considerably more flexible" (with notes of "if it's you, it's OK"), I do wish it weren't quite so believable that high-school kids are having all that sex {rueful grin}.
