What was Sherlock Holmes like before he became the "consulting detective"? Death Cloud introduces a 14-year-old Sherlock on summer break from boarding school, exiled to live with indifferent relatives while his soldier father is deployed to India and his idolized older brother, Mycroft, goes about his mysterious business for the Home Office. Naturally, Sherlock stumbles across a mysterious death and investigates with the aid of an intriguing tutor and some unlikely friends. Some of the adult detective's obsessions and faults are cleverly hinted at in his young, likeable predecessor. For what it's worth, the teen series was endorsed by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate.
