I read and enjoyed this horror anthology, edited by Hitchcock and illustrated by Fred Banbery, many many years ago, and was delighted to find this good-condition hardcover among the charity-sale books at a local Hannaford's; an inexpensive release copy, perfect for Halloween-month!
While some of the stories are very chilling indeed - F. Marion Crawford's "The Upper Berth" left me panicked and in a turn-all-the-lights-on mood for quite some time! - others are more on the humorous side, such as "The Haunted Trailer". And, of course, some of them ride the dark-comedy line, as that seems to be something of which Hitchcock is very fond.
Other favorites here include Henry Kuttner's "Housing Problem" (which takes the tale of house-elves and romps with it) and A. M. Burrage's "The Waxwork" (which takes on the eerie nature of too-realistic wax figures).
