This is a Gothic mystery concerning the search for Dracula. Do not expect any Christopher Lee-type swirls of a scarlet-lined cloak, or any of that Twilightesque pouting and sulking. Instead we are treated to a travelogue taking in Istanbul, Paris, Amsterdam, Bulgaria and Romania, coupled with a history of Vlad Tepes and of the vampire legend throughout Europe.
I must admit, there were times when I considered just putting the book onto the shelf at Brigantes unfinished, particularly as I struggle with keeping track of characters and with time-shifts, but I turned all mulish at about 400 pages (I've started, so I'll finish) and ploughed through it to the end. No spoilers - if you want to know what happens, read it!
