I don't really understand how this book got to be a bestseller. I get that it's meant to be a parable or a fairy tale for grownups, but the writing is overly simplistic and the characters, even Hector, are flat.

It was a quick read, and I did follow it all the way to the end, so that's something. I do think that some of the lessons about happiness that Hector discovers ring true, but this novel lacked depth.
