Having recently been enthralled by a Barbara Vine book from the '80s, I pounced on this one by the same author (without the pseudonym). While I found House of Stairs better, this one gets the job done too-- slow growing dread and memorable characters.

I found this book at the airport in Iceland and brought it with me to Norway. I have not finished reading it yet, so tomorrow I will take it with me to Croatia on holiday, and when I have read all of it, I will leave it in the airport there.
I'm SO happy that this book was caught and carried on! In years of occasional releases, this is the first that was properly caught!
