I love the illustrations by Mercer Mayer - they have so much personality!
I'd forgotten about the Great Brain; as I recall, my brother was a big fan at one time.
As ghir pointed out, this book is set in Utah, which is useful for reading challenges. The Academy in question is a Catholic school for 7th and 8th graders.
This is one of Croyd's books that he doesn't want any more; it will be looking for a new home soon.

Headed to New York - possibly for classroom use; there's a significant train trip in this book, so I'll count this release for GoryDetails's travel challenge.
