bwb mis-categorised this as a graphic novel, so I received this from emmejo in the 6th Manga/Graphic Novel sweepstakes. Never mind it's a novel though -- looks great nonetheless!

I've always liked fairy tales and adaptations (and had recently gone on a bit of a binge), so this seemed the perfect book to pick up next. I love the motif of the cursed/enchanted village/country that becomes accessible only for a day every hundred years or so, and I was extremely surprised when I did some reading up and found that this doesn't seem to be nearly as ancient as I had thought. (My first memory of this kind of story is from The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, by the way.)
I must admit I probably would have put this down after the first few chapter if I it hadn't been for the sweepstakes (timetravel romance otherwise not being quite my genre), but this really is the perfect kind of fluff for a cozy evening of light reading. I kept and kept expecting it to turn into an erotic novel at any moment, simply because the writing style, heavy on sensations and feelings, and overexplaining how everything was so out of character and exceptional to our heroine, is such a common element of that genre, too (also, the experienced lover imbued with magic powers)! I can report, however, that this novel is quite chaste. :)
My only real issue: what's with the dog? I can see the need for some companionship even if you are a super busy professional, but wouldn't you choose a different kind of pet that doesn't mind being home alone for most of the day? (If Jennifer employed a dog-sitter during the more workaholic times of her life, we aren't told about it.)
