So an enjoyable read. I liked the way it was written and got to understand Charlie more and more as the book went on. The life of Charlie seems all a bit complicated though and it was nice to read about his school, friends and family. All in all, its worth a read.

Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie is attempting to navigate through the uncharted territory of high school. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and music - when all one requires to feel infinite is that perfect song on that perfect drive. Standing on the fringes of life Charlie has a unique perspective of the world around him, but there comes a time to stop being a wallflower and see what it looks like from the dance floor.
This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion has become a modern classic. Charlie's letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating and through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up.

Interesting, but a strange story, rather alien. I had difficulty understanding and relating to this foreign high-school/college world. My high school (students from 13 years to 18 years) was so less complicated. No football culture or football scholarships (what the!). No girls as cheer leaders dancing about with pompoms or whatever(?). We went to classes, had exams and at aged 16 and 18 had larger, state wide exams. At 16 years there were no parties or the like. We attended the exams and then the students either left for good or went on holidays and came back the next year for the last two years. Then after that another exam, after which we left and waited the results. There were no graduation ceremonies and the like. Certainly nothing the parents attended. We did have one fairly low key party at the end of high school at 18 years. No limousines (we didn't even know what they were) or the like. We just turned up. We tried to look nice, but no hired dresses or expensive bought dresses and the like. If the student didn't already own a suitable dress, many made their own, or their mother did. A few might have bought one, but I doubt they were very expensive. It wasn't such a big deal to warrant a large expense. I don't remember any alcohol being allowed and teachers supervised the event. There might have been a few speeches given, but nothing for parents to clap and cry at, because they weren't there.
I didn't follow all the high school, college, etc in this book, as it was so foreign. Another world, which from reading, I am pleased I was not part of.
