I can't believe that I forgot to register this! I bought this book at a small independent bookshop in Whitefish, Montana, right next door to Glacier National Park. The assistant said that many people bought Nevada Barr books (at least in her shop) because of the National Parks theme. That is certainly the reason why I had picked it up!

I will put this into the UK mystery/thriller book box once I have finished it. I will make another journal entry, too!

This was an interesting read. The novel is set in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park which had special resonance for me as I visited the park back in October when I was travelling through Texas. It helped a lot that I could visualise the scenery and the arid nature of the landscape. This is a picture of the national park itself - I did the hike to this small lake while I was there.

The mystery itself revolves around the mysterious deaths of national park rangers - their deaths look attributable to natural causes but our heroine, Anna Pigeon, believes differently...

I liked this book and will put it in the UK mystery/thriller book box unless someone wants to claim it first!

Found in the UK mystery/thriller book box set that was delivered at my door last Suday (thanks LeighBCD for the surprise, and to loopy1 for starting this!). It's going back to the box to be passed on to Chelseagirl :-)

I like the idea of this being set in an American national park with rangers involved, perhaps especially because a colleague is shortly leaving to become a ranger (in the UK though!), so I am taking it from the UK mystery/thriller bookbox. Thanks, LeighBCD, for putting it in and for the picture below!

I enjoyed this very much. I haven't read anything by this author before, but will be looking out for more books by her. I found it a good mystery, backed up by evocative desciptions of this Texan desert area and life and wildlife in it. I've never been there, but I feel I know the difficulties and beauties well. I also liked the character of Ranger Anna Pigeon - not stereotypical, and with depth.

Current plan for this book is to reserve it for ShelaghG's crime bookbox - so far no-one else on the list for this one has joined hers, so it will go to a new audience.

This is being put into ShelaghG's crime bookbox - I hope whoever takes it out enjoys it as much as I did!

I've had this a while & only just got round to reading it, sorry about that.
I really enjoyed it, I wouldn't have guessed the ending & I hope to read more Nevada Barr novels.
Perhaps a map of the area would have been handy, I got a bit muddled as to where Anna was some of the time.
I plan to take it to release at the Unconvention 2005.
