just got it today, thanks to Meralee again :)
March 4th: i finally picked the book up to read it... and finished it within an hour... i've read The Notebook before and was a little dissapointed because Sparks was highly recommended to me...
however, this one was ways better, although it's an old story it's so wonderful written, full of wit and heartmoving emotions, i couldn't put the book down...

Thank you so much, citrus!! This was a book on my wishlist! Can't wait to read it....
May 18. Incredible. This is one of the few authors that can consistantly make me cry. How a man (no offence intended to the male species) can write the way he does is beyond me. How he can make you feel the emotions he's trying to get acrossed, so very clearly, as if you were experiencing or had experienced them is simply a wonder.
Another in a long list of beautifully written stories.
This book is going out on a book ray! Here is the final mailing order:
thescreaming MD Ship anywhere
LCBane Keyser, WV Ship anywhere
bcosta Rio de Janeiro Brazil Can ship anywhere.
This book is will be on it's way to thescreaming in a day or so. Please, journal when you receive the book and of course after you've read it and let everyone know when you send it on it's way to the next in line.

Journal Entry 5 by jarrett622 at To the next participant in Bookring/Bookray, -- By post or by hand/ in person -- Canada on Friday, May 28, 2004
Release planned for Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Bookray in Bookray, A Bookray Controlled Releases.
This came in today's mail. I have two other books ahead of it, but I may try and read it this weekend so that I can pass it on to Linda (LCBane) at next week's meet up (if she can make it).
This was my first Sparks novel, and I must say that I am now a fan of his. I thought for sure that I would be disappointed with his books because everyone seems to love him, but I just loved this one. I haven't cried so much while reading a book in a long time. It has the right blend of humor, romance, and drama. I really can't believe I guy could write this.
Tomorrow I'll be stopping by LCBanes workplace to give her this book.

Thescreaming dropped the book off on Thursday, but I left it at work and then mislaid it. Sorry to be late journaling.
I started reading it this weekend and really got into the story, although I have to admit that I kept thinking, "In every film adaptation of Sparks' novels, someone dies. If Denise or Taylor or Kyle dies, I am going to be so p****sssed!!!!" Waiting for someone to die was a major distraction. I think I would have given it a 10 if it hadn't been for that.
Anyway, I liked it a lot and would have read it straight through if I hadn't mislaid the book for a couple of days. I found it again last night as I was going to bed, so I got up early this morning and finished it.
My only criticism is that it took Taylor's mother much too long to confront him about his problem. Granted that he needed a major shock to get him to the point where he could be receptive to what she had to say, but I think that she could have breached his defenses when he was still a child, and I wonder that she was able to watch his history of shattered relationships without confronting him sooner.
Good book. Good read. A little predictable.

Just arrived and it's already on the top of my TBR pile.
Thanks LCBane for sending it so fast. Also, thanks for the postcard. Such a lovely landscape!
As soon as I read it, I'll journal again.
(07-19-2004 Edit)
I haven't finished it yet (I'm loving it! What a lovely, though predictable, story!), but as there are other Bookcrossers who want to read it, I'm already organizing the ray.

It took a little before I started enjoying the book. I found the sentences too large in the beginning, even boring, but soon I stopped paying attention to this and it became a really nice reading.
It's a light, easy to read story about a man who is afraid of falling in love with anyone, even himself. Made me laugh and cry.
One more fan of Sparks, that's what I turned into.

Sent today to metropolitan.
Received today. As soon as I finish "Life at the Border", I'll start this one. Thanks for sharing!
Once I got to the book, I read it at one sitting. I think it's interesting to see that citrus preferred The Rescue to The Notebook. For me it was the opposite! Maybe it's age related (she's eighteen, the lucky girl, and I'm 46).I found this a bit predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I'll be mailing it next week. Thanks for sharing!

RELEASE NOTES:
My life suddenly became quite hectic and I won't have time to read this book. :o( I am sending it on to vsimeone so that the ring doesn't stall. Maybe when the ring is near completed I can be added to the end of the list. It looks like a really great book!

Just received this today. I have a couple more bookrings in front of it but am anxious to get to it as soon as possible!
I am finally catching up on my rings! I am sorry that it has taken me so long. I am grateful for the opportunity to read this though. As the others have said: it was a bit predictable but I am a sucker for a sappy love story and this was a good one! I have PMed Sissyrun and will mail this off just as soon as I get an address. Thank you again for letting me participate.
11/27/04 - Sissyrun asked to be skipped for now and I could not get a response from PMs or e-mail from Gaysocialworker. With Bcosta's permission, this book was mailed to Rrrcaron yesterday.

Like all the other Nicholas Sparks books I have read in the past- I loved it! It took me forever to get to this book, but only a couple of days to read it. It was just what I needed after spending time reviewing books. Thanks for letting me read the book, and sorry I kept it so long. PMing
brewster13, and will send it along as soon as I receive an address.

While the writing was enjoyable, I found this book to be too predictable, and formulaic (is that the right word I'm looking for?). What I mean is that it is written as if following a specific formula ... ok, now I need some foreshadowing, now I need the lovable best friend, now I need the opportunity for them to meet again, etc. And I am not a sucker for a sappy love story, so this got to be a bit much. It was just a bit too predictable, and a bit over zealous in explaining every emotion in absolute detail. For that it gets a 6.
Thanks for the opportunity to read. I will send on this week. Brew

I enjoyed reading this and became engrossed and couldn't put it down. As some others have said it is a bit predictable but you have to keep going as you know the end but not how you're going to get there!!!!!

Off in the mail to Maupi first class!!!!
And here it is. What irony, I was in Derbyshire last weekend (Chesterfield, wonky tower, yes, I've been around ...). Sudden, unplanned, had I known beforehand, I could have arranged a book transfer with pinkrosymolly. Thank you for ringing and forwarding and all. Yet another author I've never read, though I read and read and read and read. It never stops!
This was a rather quick read. I do have to admit that I speed-read parts: It is not my genre. Actually, I do not know which genre this is, it's just a bit too sentimental, "all's well that ends well", love conquers all, etc. These truths just don't work for me. That aside, I've now read a book by Sparks and have an impression of his writing. Off to the next reader!
