I thought this was a new John Grisham book when I bought it but it is actually a 2017 reprint. It was first published in 2006 but I had never heard this story before. A man with evident mental problems was sent to death row in the late 1980s for a murder, that becomes evident when you read the book, he didn't commit. He served 11 years behind bars in terrible conditions because of the chronic failure of the justice system at that time. The police failed him, the prosecution service failed him and the courts failed him. Thank God for the Innocence Project that started the ball rolling in getting him released.
