I am not normally one for reading 'celebrity' auto/biographies as they don't normally have very much interesting to say but this is a real warts and all account of Paul's life from a child to his latter teenage years. A typical self absorbed truculent teenager who really had no idea what to do with himself, but I loved the witty accounts of his adolescence, family life and the continuous despair of his parents who didn't seem to quite know what to make of him. He grew up in Birkenhead, across the Mersey from Liverpool, in a small house during the 50s, 60s and 70s which always seemed to be bursting at the seams with family members coming and going but he did have a happy childhood and, of course, subsequently made good. Wouldn't his parents have been proud of him now? I loved the anecdotal accounts of his various family members, their idiosyncrasies and personalities but they endured the war years and were the salt of the earth. I already have the sequel lined up, which looks promising when his on/off girlfriend Diane rings him up with some explosive news announced in the last line of this book!
