Picked up at the meeting today. I do love Geraldine Brooks, but this may languish on my TBR shelf for a while.....
Hopefully not too long....
Dec 10th Edited to Add:
It looks like I forgot to journal that I read this and enjoyed it very much! I just love Geraldine Brooks writing and the way she paints pictures with her words. This book is a historical retelling of the tale of King David. It is graphic and gritty and sure to offend some people, but I thought the storytelling was marvellous! I am also very, very, very, very happy to be a woman in modern times - my heart just broke for the women in this story...

Taking this to the Calgary Bookcrossing meeting to find a new reader.
Enjoy!!
Enjoy!!
Picked this book up at the December meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
After reading People of the Book, also by Geraldine Brooks, I jumped on this book as soon as it was offered, and it made its way to the top of the pile quickly.
What a amazing amount of research went into the writing of this historical fiction!
Reader tips:
1) Put a paper clip to mark the list of names and relationships at the front - you will be referring back a lot!
2) Since I knew nothing about King David, I did a quick Wikipedia check. He's the David that slew Goliath! And, oh, so much more.
3) Enjoy the story - it won't disappoint!

Taken to the April meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Picked this up at the April BookCrossing meeting. Looking forward to reading it.
A fascinating telling of the story of King David. I found it a bit hard to read, trying to keep all the names and relationships straight.
Taking this to the December BookCrossing meeting to be enjoyed by the next reader.
Brought this home from the December meet up at Cravings.
These historical fiction books are so interesting - especially the ones based on the bible stories. David is quite the character and this really humanizes him and gives lots of backstory. This is downloadable from the library.
I am taking this to the November meetup at Cravings.
picked up at the Calgary November meeting
Fascinating fictionalized history of King David, with all his flaws and strengths. Found myself constantly trying to translate the names into the Anglicized versions, but other than that, thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Will be bringing it to the next meeting to pass it on to the next lucky reader.

Picked up at get together
Very well written. This story pulled me right along. The variety of characters were fascinating, and created quite an intricate story of what the life of David may have been.
Thanks for the great read.

Returned to another bookcrosser
Returned at last month's meeting.
Taking to work to start our communal bookshelf!
