Anne was a shy student when she met Charles Lindbergh, a famed aviator, and fell in love. However, being married to this adventurer is not as simple and pleasant as she had imagined. Harassed by the press, never staying in one place and with Charles' hot-and-cold personality, Anne struggles to make the marriage work, at least in public.
I found this book engrossing, staying up late despite having work early in the morning in order to finish it. Anne is an engaging character, but also clearly a "product of her time" and a historical time of transition. There are many situations where a modern woman would be expected to stick up for herself and her family, but Anne feels compelled to keep her marriage together, up to a point. This is where things really get interesting; the conflict between the way Anne's family raised her and the new, more independent world that she is living in. Despite her shyness, Anne is a brave, tough woman.
