Picked up to read after enjoying the Frankenstein graphic novel by this illustrator and publisher.

Amazon Editorial Review

On a dreary winter night, a grief-stricken man sits alone reading by a dying fire when there is a tap at the window. He goes to investigate and there enters a raven. But what does this bird want? Is it a friend or some kind of demon? And why does it keep repeating the phrase "Nevermore"? In "The Fall of the House of Usher" a portent of doom lingers over an ancestral family home, while in "The Masque of the Red Death" a horrific plague threatens to consume humanity. "The Black Cat" features a cat who knows too much and a man who pays the ultimate price, and in "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether" a curious visitor gets more than he bargained for at a sinister asylum. This graphic collection of Poe's tales will incite that sensation particular to the Gothic genre: a pleasing fear or dread.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel collection.

It contains the stories The Raven, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, The Black Cat, and The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether. I felt that this collection did a very good job of keeping Poe's writing and tone of the original stories. I have read one other Metro books Graphic novel illustrated by Pete Katz and very much enjoy his illustration style.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I had thought this was going to the winner of the manga & graphic novels sweeps. But a slew of packages over the last few days tells me I won. This is instead headed to the decoy winner.

Now this is a surprise - but of the most welcome kind! Love Poe's stories, so this will be saved for holidays and will be enjoyed with red wine, under a nice cosy blanket :) Thank you ever so much for sending it all the way across the pond, nimrodiel!

A Poe is a Poe, even in graphic novel form. Time has kept the stories as dark and depressing as ever, they feel just as fresh today as over hundred years ago. The people were drawn surprisingly pretty, The Raven's man even looked similar to Elijah Wood! Something in the drawings' sketch-like appearance and immobility of the expressions left me uninpressed, hence only 7 stars. A nice new form for a well-read classic, though!

If you happen to win the Finnish forum's monthly book sweeps, you might want to have something a little lighter at hand as well... Well, lighter page-wise at least!

Thank you so much for this graphic novel! Indeed it is great to get something "lighter" too as December's sweepstake winner. And I already know where to pass this on after I have read it!:)

Superb. The Black Cat is my favorite though all stories are properly creepy for me. Thanks for letting me squeeze in here.
