Quest for a Maid

"When I was nine years old, I hid under a table and heard my sister kill a king." is one of the best first lines I've come across recently. It definitely would have hooked me as a kid. I picked this book up because of the reviews on an art history blog I like. I was not disappointed. I finished all nearly-300 pages of this book in a couple hours, caught up in the life and drama of Meg and her family and friends. The writing features a lot of historical slang, but it is woven in so smoothly that after the first couple pages, you stop noticing it. Some tweens might find it a little more challenging, but there is a glossary in the back of the book if needed.
I am "lending" this book to my little sister. Not all the books I lend her come back, so I'm making release notes now.
My sister returned this book to me, so it will be traveling on to find a new reader soon.
