I'm not even sure where I should start with this one. First of all, don't let the size intimidate you - it's well worth the time needed to get through it.

It's a bit of an odd beginning with the narrator talking directly to you, but it doesn't last that long and I think it adds a bit to the story on reflection. Just finished this last night and I think it will take a bit for it all to sink in and for me to be able to post a summary that is truly worthy of the book and my reaction to it. It certainly helped to have this book to read along with a group of others on this site - it was an incentive every evening to go home and get my reading done so we could proceed with discussion the next day about that night's chapters.

There are abundent details in the setting, characters and their lives - so much in fact, that at times it can weigh the story down, but in the end, I think you'll be glad you knew as much and could understand as much as you did.

The only part that threw me off a bit was the ending - it wasn't expected and seemed a bit different than I thought the story should flow, but our group hasn't had a chance to discuss that part yet and I won't give it away to the next person to receive this book.

Image hosting by Photobucket Wow. What a book. The story is incredible, and the ending, as ireland424 said, is rather abrupt. I turned the page looking for more story...but, no, the author left the ending up to the reader's imagination. The narration is different, but it works well after you get used to it. Sometimes there is a bit too much description; I wondered what purpose beyond the gross-out factor the author would have in describing certain things. However, at the end of this copy, there are reading-group questions. One of these asked the reader to consider one of the story's themes, that of cleanliness vs. flith...I think that made me think more about the reasoning behind including some of the descriptions.
I'm offering this one to another bookcrosser who has it wish-listed.

The story just pulled me in ands flew by. Though the ending left me a little sad as I wanted to know what happens to the main charecters after the book ends.

I really enjoyed this book alot.

I've lent it to a friend who seemed interested in reading this as well. Hopefully she will journal her thoughts on it when she finishes it.
