Description from the back of the book:
"Thomas Kilbride is a schizophrenic who spends his days and nights on a Web site called Whirl360. He travels the world without ever leaving his bedroom and memorizes the details of every street in every city. Then one day, he sees an image that looks like a woman being murdered in a window in New York City. Thomas's brother, Ray, knows Thomas's paranoia all too well. But if this time it's real, both of them will have more to deal with than Thomas's delusions."

This is a particularly special book because Linwood Barclay is one of my favourite authors. Whenever I start reading one his books, I just can't put it down until I'm finished. I met him at a book festival recently and told him about BookCrossing. He seemed intrigued by the idea and graciously signed this book, with the dedication, "To my BookCrossing friends around the world." I plan to share this book among my friends, hoping to create more Linwood Barclay fans along the way, and then I will send it travelling around the world.
This one is a real page turner, like all the other Linwood Barclay books I've read. There were a good number of unexpected twists along the way. Apart from the mystery/thriller aspect, I really like how Barclay writes about family relationships in his books.
I enjoyed the style of writing. There are several different stories and I liked having to figure out how they all came together. A great mystery.
I got this book back from sjt105 and have now sent it on to Minerva101.
This book arrived safely in my mailbox today. I will get reading it and will journal again when I am done and ready to send it off. Linwood Barclay comes highly recommended to me, so I am looking forward to finding out what the buzz is about :)
Well, I have officially completed reading my first novel by Linwood Barclay! And it was very good - quite a pot boiler with interesting tangents that all come together at the end. I would happily recommend this book to fans of Jonathan Kellerman because of the interesting psychological twists and character motivations throughout the book. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more solid character development of Ray and Thomas and their relationship together - it felt a little cardboard and secondary to the action in the book.
Thank you so much for sharing, mathgirl40!!
I have already PM'd JudySlump612 for her mailing address and am just waiting on a response.

Finally packaged up and mailed to JudySlump612 - sorry again for the delay, but at least it is moving again :)
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
This looks very interesting - glad i signed up for the bookring. And it arrived with a couple of bonus extra books from the generous and noble Minerva101. I'll have to see what I can find as a thank-you gift to show my appreciation!
I have a couple of bones to pick with this book. First of all, the character of Thomas is so excruciatingly annoying I had a hard time forcing my way through the pages in which he was on stage. I couldn't figure out why the main character, his brother Ray, didn't just change his name and cut off all contact. Perhaps if Barclay had included some flashback scenes showing a warm relationship between the two before Thomas' illness kicked in, that might have helped.
Second, the most interesting and sympathetic character was a contract killer and (we discover) former Olympic gymnast. Time after time we saw her doing the most effective job of thinking ahead, keeping cool under pressure, and I also liked the way she used the icepick. But Linwood dumps almost all the bad luck, some of it quite improbable, on her shoulders. I know, life is unfair, but I was rooting for her. And does it say more about me or this book that the character I liked best was one of the killers?
Finally, I wonder why Barclay sets the book in the US, even though he's lived in Canada since he was four years old and is a Canadian citizen. Did his publisher advise him that it would sell better in the lucrative US markets if insular American readers didn't have to flinch away from disturbing foreign locations? Or is he just going with conventional wisdom about the source of most of the violence on the continent?
But he's a very engaging writer, and I enjoyed reading the book, especially with the autographed inscription. You can see from the dates that it didn't take me long to zip through this quick read.

Update: So I read this practically in one sitting :)
As usual, Barclay delivers a very good, suspenseful thriller that was hard to put down. And the twists! Oh my, let's just say that I didn't really expect that...

Book arrived safely yesterday, thanks for sending it. I'm a little bit cold, so I'm going to read it when I feel better - it's to much for me to read in foreign language when I've got fever ;)
And the book is here...
Thanks, Jotka, for sending it on with a lovely Made in Poland bookmark with geese, and a Mautwurf postcard... I remember this character from my years as a nanny in London!
And yes, I can see the author's signature... Wow!
This is the rest of the bookray list:
Jotka, Germany (will ship anywhere)
Bookworm-lady, Spain (will ship anywhere) (The book is here with me now!)
bluezwuzl, Germany (will ship anywhere)
Midlifecrisis, UK (UK/EU preferred)
quadrat, UK
I thought it would be useful to have it here.
Thanks for sharing, Mathgirl40, and for getting the writer to sign this copy for us! :)

Currently reading it... and a real page-turner so far!
I will ask for the next in line's address; I don't think I will take long.

I really, completely, utterly loved this book!
Maybe it came at just the right time, when I had some free afternoons for reading. rather than doing it late at night when I am very, very tired.
Anyway, it kept me hooked on. I loved the way characters were described and well differentiated from each other (there is a current tendency towards all characters sounding the same... or then again, I might just be very tired when I read).
A real page-turner, with unexpected (or maybe not) twists, and many sub-plots that come nicely together.
As Stephen King aptly put it:
"My idea of a sweet ride is three days of rain, a fridge filled with snacks, and a new Linwood Barclay. I just had all three. "Trust your Eyes" is the best Barclay so far, a tale Hitchcock would have loved."
This is my first Linwood Barclay, but I have just found another novel still unread in one of my book boxes (yes, still unpacking after one year in my new flat), and I can't wait to get into it. I am sure it will grant me many more delightful reading hours.
I already have bluezwuzl's address, so the book will be on its way to her next week.

The book arrived some days ago. Unfirtunately, I have to finish two others first, before I can start with this promising read! Thanks, bookworm-lady - there will be another book to you, soon...
;-)
;-)
This was my first Linwood Barclay book - and it won't be the last! I've always liked "unlikely" heroes, and here they are... A very suspenseful read, and a nice roller-coaster-ride up to the very end...
Heartfelt thanks for sharing this great read, mathgirl401
...and, finally, the book is travelling again! It's off to China and I'm sure BaiLong will love it!
