Really a good travel story! I'm always interested in reading about trips by bike or on foot, especially when it's done by a solo female, and I also liked the way this one was written; not too much sugarcoating or exaggerated awesomeness, but not constant 'sarcastic-but-supposedly-oh-so-funny' bickering either. Balanced and realistic, just the way I
like it :)

sakirmo and Chania pretty much already said all that I wanted to say. I did enjoy reading the book and it was interesting to read about a country we know fairly little, at least when it comes to the life of the ordinary people trying to get by. At times I was slightly annoyed on Chiang's habit of sticking to her predetermined budget which lead her to search for a cheap accommodation. The host families were willing to give the best bed, shared their meals even if it took most of their monthly ratios of food and she still wanted to pay as little as possible. I can understand that she couldn't spend all her money but I wished she could have made some exceptions and not record all the fares she paid for staying the night.

Gave the book to my colleague at work who wanted to read something in English. Said that I don't need the book back :-)
