Melodramatic story of all sorts of melodramatic drama.
Oliver Jones, oceanographer specializing in humpback whales, is married to Jane. They have a daughter, Rebecca, who turns 15 in the midst of the story. Jane has a brother Joley who is in love with Jane. She always protected him from their father. Their father would hit their mother and Jane. He also engaged in some sexual abuse of Jane. Drama!
Joley works on an apple farm in Massachusetts owned by his friend Sam. Sam's best friend Hadley also works on this farm. Back in San Diego, at the home of Oliver, Jane and Rebecca Jones, Oliver and Jane get in a fight and Jane hits Oliver. Oh but this is not the first time someone has hit the other in this marriage. Oliver hit Jane back when Rebecca was a wee girl. Jane left with Rebecca and when Oliver demanded his daughter back Jane puts Rebecca on a plane back to her father by herself. The plane crashes and Rebecca is one of the very few survivors! Drama!
So after Jane hits Oliver, at the time near Rebecca's 15th birthday, Jane and Rebecca skedaddle again. This time they are on their way to Hansen Farms in Massachusetts, the farm owned by Sam and worked on by Hadley and Joley. Oh, rue the day!
Jane hates Sam and Sam hates Jane. They fall in love. Hadley and Rebecca fall in love. Joley is left out, again. Oliver is playing Detective Jones tracking Jane and Rebecca as they drive across the country. Drama!
I don't want to give the ending away. But let me just say, more drama!
