I got this nearly-new softcover from the ongoing book sale at the Nashua Public Library. It's the first volume of a manga series that I haven't encountered before. At first it looked like a typical meet-cute/goofy-heroine romantic comedy, as it opens with high school freshman Kei pouncing on Kanzaki, a male classmate, with the demand that he let her see his apartment, refusing to take "no" for an answer. At this point I knew I detested her, but it turns out this wasn't a foolish girl with a crush - foolish, yes, but her reasons for wanting to get into that apartment have a much more poignant motivation. [It still doesn't make a lot of sense, but then her other problems show that "logical" isn't in her wheelhouse.]

As the story unfolds we find out why she wants to see the place so badly (she lost a memento there - though it turns out that this explanation isn't entirely accurate), and also how she and Kanzaki each have troubled pasts. Kei's brothers (who have their own sets of personality problems, though they seem to function better in the real world than Kei does) alternate between teasing her and helping her, and there are some interesting family/friend dynamics - but it becomes obvious that Kei's a lot more troubled than it seemed at first, to the point that she may be damaging her own health.

So, not the fluffy-light story it looked like; seems the title is more fitting than the art-style!

I left this book in the Little Free Library at around 12 or so; hope the finder enjoys it!
