I succumbed to temptation during some recent sales at Better World Books; this slightly-battered ex-library softcover is one of my choices.

The storyline's similar to others I've seen: a high school girl has fond memories of meeting a boy on the seashore as a child, and treasures the trinket he gave her. Now, she runs into two different guys, one of whom rescues her from a subway pervert and the other - well, no guesses needed as to who the other is, though it doesn't seem to click with her right away. Turns out the two boys are brothers, one an adult and the other a student, and it looks as though the plot will involve a romantic triangle in which some of the members have clearer memories of their early meeting than others do.

I did enjoy the love-of-the-seashore tie-in, with lessons in beachcombing, the care and handling of different kinds of shells (including the smelly business of cleaning out the ones that have occupants), and the crafting of decorative items with the results. The romantic element - well, so far it's not very interesting to me, and doesn't seem to be causing much angst for the other characters... yet.

Matters become complicated when another girl turns up, one who also seems to have a troubled past and a mysterious connection to the guys. She also has a very bad attitude, which - unlikeable as it is - is a rather refreshing change from the sunny heroine!
