In the first part of the book, the mother, Nalini, is explaining her new life in England, how she doesn't understand the language and the habbits, why she lied to her children. In the second part of the book, Maya is describing her school and friends, what she loves about England and the presents her dad always brings her from his business trips.
It will take years before Nalini and Maya find and understand each other. Once they both find tolerance and forgiveness, they will be finally home.
