I came across this slightly-battered trade paperback at the Lowell MA library sale, and had to give it a try. It's a dark-fantasy/horror anthology by some writers that are new to me, and who live in locations from Alaska to the Isle of Wight.

Among my favorites:

"Strange Stars" by Shaun Adams is an atmospheric ghost-town/afterlife tale.

"Dawg Days" by Gregory K. Shipman is set in an overheated world, where there are "Chill Zombies"...

"Orbs" by Jennfer M. Zeiger involves a restricted world in which different cliques battle for control of power-sources known as orbs; the true nature of the orbs means that changing ownership of them might have a very different effect than intended.

"Within These Walls" by Kelleigh Elizabeth Perry reveals increasingly horrifying family secrets.

"Lily of the Valley" by Shaun Adams is a short little chiller about things that scrabble in the darkness.

And "Comes a Slayer" by Matthew X. Gomez is about a community beset by a dragon whom many have tried - and failed - to kill. Then a stranger shows up claiming that he can slay the dragon, and things... go rather differently than expected.

The book includes poems, too, some of them very creepy, such as "The Clown" by Doug Langville.
