I got this slightly-battered softcover at the Lowell MA library book sale. I've read several volumes, and am looking forward to this one, which has the much-tried doctor Hatori (the zodiac dragon) on the cover. (I enjoyed the anime adaptation so I already have some idea what's going to happen, but the manga has its own charms.)

So far in the series, Tohru has been able to charm and befriend nearly all the Sohmas she's met. But now she faces a serious challenge: the snarky, teasing, bratty little Hiro, the zodiac-ram. He starts pestering Tohru unmercifully - and eventually we find out why: he's jealous of her attentions to Kisa (the adorable zodiac-tiger), who's the only person Hiro can actually be nice to. (When Hiro is forced to apologize to Tohru she picks a lovely punishment - she demands a hug, so she can find out what animal he is. And as he's just a youngster, the "ram" becomes a very cute little lamb, much to his embarrassment!)

While the story behind Hiro's tough-guy attitude is another sad, dysfunctional Sohma-family tale, the next chapter's a bit lighter - it centers around Tohru's new swimsuit, about which all the guys have dearly-held opinions, from Shigure's typical lechery to jealous squabbles about the color between Kyo and Yuki.

We also find out more about Tohru's friend Uo-chan, a seriously tough girl who actually did run with a gang for a while; it was Tohru's mother who inspired her to clean up her act, but Uo-chan's still dangerous if her friends are threatened.

By the end of this volume we see how one of Yuki's fangirls at school may have gone off the deep end in her jealousy. Will she turn over a new leaf?

[There's a TV Tropes page for the series, with lots of info - and spoilers, most masked but some not, so read with care!]
