My friends will be hysterical with laughter if they see this in my house, after all the rude things I've said about Flylady in the past.

I'm hoping that reading the book might make more of an impression on me than her dreadful emails did.

I found flylady at the beginning of this year, just as I started to feel that it really was time to get the house straight. A couple of months later I feel I'm starting to get somewhere, all thanks to flylady, so when I got the chance to read this book it seemed too good to pass up. DH has already picked up the book and started reading a couple of pages, so perhaps he'll understand more what I'm trying to do.
Anyway, I'll let you know what I think of the book once I've read it. Thanks :-)

I really enjoyed this book, and I think flylady is wonderful!
I've been thinking about why her methods appeal so much:
She tells me what to do. I grew up in a household where housework was nonexistent, so I have no example to follow. I've been floundering for years, unsure of what I should be doing or how to do it. Flylady gives me an exact routine to follow.
She's bossy. She keeps at me telling me what I should be doing (I subscribe to her email list).
She's encouraging. Along with the daily digest I get there are three or four messages from others saying how wonderful it is now they have things in order. These are usually the spur I need to get going.
Some of her phrases have stuck in my head and keep me going:
You can do anything for 15 minutes.
Baby steps.
It didn't get messy in a day and it won't get clean in a day.
You're not behind - just jump in where you are.

I think what she's worked in me is a complete change of attitude - housework is fun and enjoyable. I especially like the idea of blessing the house and blessing the world.
Also the idea of building up routines one step at a time. I'm gradually building up my routines, and have set up my control journal.
Much of what's in the book is on the website too, but the chapter that really stood out for me was the one about running on empty. She described me in both senses - literally leaving refueling the car until the last possible moment, and not seeing that I have the time to refuel myself in "me time".
Thanks for this book, it will be moving on once I receive an address.

I just love this system. I have been a flybaby since June last year and it really has transformed my home if not my life!!

There is a lot of the book on the website in various formats but it was still great to read the book. There were some hints and tips that I got from it. I love the idea of walking through your home as though you were an estate agent identifying the areas that could be improved upon as though you were about to put your house on the market.

So much of it is just commonsense and seems so obvious after you have read it and you wonder why it had never occurred to you before. I must be a SHE!!

On to Tiggysbabes tomorrow

TBR. I have been meaning to buy this book ever since I joined Flylady, so this is great. I will read through it ASAP as I need some tips as my house has gone back into chaos mode.

Journal Entry 9 by tiggsybabes from Pontefract, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Monday, April 5, 2004
Just finished this am & motivated now to promote myself from a flybaby to a flylady. I've been flying for about 2.5 years & keep crashing & burning. I definitely need to be more organised now I'm pregnant again.

I can't wait to read this book. Like so many of us I have been flying on and off for a while, and hopefully reading Marla's advice in real book form will get me going again.

Well, this book lived up to expectations and I feel motivated again.

Off to KathyS next.

Journal Entry 13 by KathyS from Ramsey, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Thursday, June 17, 2004
Arrived a couple of days ago - but I've only just been able to get on line to say it's here.

Thanks for sharing this mrsbridgewater. I'm hoping it will help with my ever-more cluttered home - just hope I can find the energy to get started !

UPDATE: 10th July 2004

As it's the kind of book you need to act on whilst reading, this is taking me longer to pass on than normal. I hope people will understand. I want to make relevant notes before moving it on to Weebly. I will probably take this with me to the Unconvention next Saturday in Birmingham.

Useful advice. Take babysteps, you're never behind, etc. but I could do without the "god breezes" and the like. It comes across too preachy and a bit too warm and fluffy for me!

I'd like to sign up to the flylady website but I don't want to be swamped with emails of the same tone - I might be driven to do something drastic and pull of the flylady's wings ;o) But I would say that she is spot on with the organisational methods she recommends and I hope to implement the 15 minute timer technique and zone cleaning to keep my household under control.

Thanks for sharing this with me. Having also participated in a "How Clean Is Your House?" bookring, I now feel fully equipped to tackle my home and keep it under control :o)

Release planned for Saturday, July 17, 2004 at BCUK 2004 Unconvention @ Apres Bar, Summerrow in Birmingham, England Controlled Releases.

Handed to Weebly for her enjoyment :o)

Passed to me at the un-convention/national meet. I need another boost in getting my place ship shape and tidy - I think I need a book about cleaning sent to me about every 2 months just to keep the momentum going!

Journal Entry 17 by weebly from Hartwell, Northamptonshire United Kingdom on Friday, July 30, 2004
I can't shine my sink - it is white - but it is clean! I have found this book has motivated me to do more clutter clearing - but I am just not sure about blessings and the routines. I know I should, maybe I am just not ready for it yet. In fact reading this book made me realise that after the de-clutter with fung shui ring I was on, my home is alot lot better than it was, and work tops, side and shelves have already appeared from under the clutter of paper, kids toys and general stuff.

I too have resisted joining the website, despite others encouraging me to FLY - my friend in France had just started baby steps when I visited her last year - and I was able to help her with another step when I was there. Her lounge was full of baby toys which her son hardly ever looked at. We sorted them out so she had just one box in the lounge, the rest were binned, donated to charity or put in his room. Then the next day he discovered and played with toys which he had not noticed for ages, and we put all the shapes back with the shape sorter etc. so he could actually play with things properly!

Mayby one day I will be ready to FLY - for now the baby steps are keeping me sane - and I am not drowning under the clutter! Also my kids are having a garage sale and donating the proceeds to charity, and we put the 15 minute timer on and loud music for them to go and sort through their stuff to decide keep/fling/bin and they love that - we have 3 boxes full already!

I will be sending this on to Decembermum today - hope it helps you too.

Journal Entry 18 by Decembermum from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Monday, August 2, 2004
This arrived this morning, I'm not sure that the summer holidays are the ideal time for me to start thinking about decluttering but anyway......

Journal Entry 19 by Decembermum from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 17, 2004
Well of course it all makes perfect sense, I just can't quite manage to follow it. Perhaps once the older children are back at school I'll give it another go.

Sending on to Shelbycat

Journal Entry 20 by Shelbycat from Llanelli, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, September 12, 2004
Thanks to everyone for passing this book on, trouble is i'm a completely hopeless case, so much so that i've not even managed to read the whole first chapter yet. I'll try my hardest to read, and practice asap.

Journal Entry 21 by Shelbycat from Llanelli, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, November 10, 2004
A fab motivating book, trouble is i need more than a book to motivate myself and my other half. I think the house is still only going to get by with sparodic cleaning. Mind you i did do a large amount of fling-boogie-ing and got rid of loads of stuff and boxed loads of other stuff neatly (including the TBR pile which now lives under the bed in two large boxes, but is also trying to crawl out in the form of New TBR piles).
Now been posted off to Rainbow3.

Sadly, it would seem that this book has gone AWOL in the postal system.

However, the very wonderful Laura0141 has agreed to use her copy of the book to complete the Ring, and it will be on it's way to the next reader shortly.

Check out fresh journal entries on Laura's copy here.
