On Beauty

Set in New England mainly and London partly, On Beauty concerns a pair of feuding families - the Belseys and the Kipps - and a clutch of doomed affairs. It puts low morals among high ideals and asks some searching questions about what life does to love. For the Belseys and the Kipps, the confusions - both personal and political - of our uncertain age are about to be brought close to home: right to the heart of family.
Wonderfully ironic novel!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
It took me longer than expected to get to this book (life...), but once started, I couldn't put it down. It blew my mind.
The story revolves around the Belsey family, and describes them (and the people around them), their life, their characters, in all their baseness, defaults, but also reality. Most of them are rather sordid, with their affairs, their obsessions, etc. But the book is beautiful.
I've never heard of Zadie Smith before, but now, I just have to get my hands on her other writtings.
The book is now on its way to littlevoice, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

I very much enjoyed Zadie Smith's debut novel White Teeth, so put this one on my wishlist, which earned me an invitation to join this bookray. On Beauty has the characteristics of a literary novel that usually put me off - most of the characters are unlikeable, and nothing much actually happens - yet Zadie Smith's wit, humour and exquisite observations made it a pleasurable read.
Next stop in this ray - the USA.

You think that people that are affluent and educated would have there lives in order, but they are just as messed up as the rest of us. We'll thanks for letting me be apart of the book ring. I'll get this out this week hopefully to the next person on the list.
The book has arrived today and I´m looking forward to reading it!
