This is the debut mystery in this series by a local Minnesota author. Brie Beaumont is on leave from the Minneapolis PD after her partner was killed. She ships out as crew on a windjammer called The Maine Wind, captained by the dashing John DuLac. When someone on board is murdered, Brie begins an investigation calling upon her expertise as a homicide detective. A very good mystery with lots of likely suspects and red herrings and the ship standing in for an isolated country house. Ultimately, I found the solution unsatisfying, but I liked this book enough to continue on with the series. I am not experienced in sailing terminology (except what I have gleaned from Star Trek)m so I found the lack of a glossary a bit irritating, but then I relaxed and just let the sailing terms "float by." I don't think they were crucial to the solution of the story. This book gave a vivid account of the rigors of crewing such a vessel and of the beauty and danger of sailing the coast of Maine.
