Yellow Silk, a popular journal about sex, love, literature and art is now in book form. A compilation of writing by over fifty writers. Including Jane Smiley, Toblass Wolff, Dorthy Allison, Walter Mosley, Carlos Fuentes and more. Not reliant on stereotypes, the book is intellegent, playful, sensual and amusing.

I've never really read erotica except for Anais Nin. While her writings are of the older variety, they appear much more cloak and dagger then this form does. I quite enjoyed the short stories but the poetry/prose/freeform were not of interest to me. Considering the content, I have chosen to form a book ray. This book will appeal to a certain type of reader. I already have a few particulars in mind that might enjoy this read. I'll post the offer up in Wish List Forum.
Here are the names of those interested in the Bookray:

It's here! What great timing, too! I have been away for a bit and had finished all my ring/ray books and came home to a few more in the mail. I should have this read and ready to go out the door in the next couple weeks. Will journal again when I'm finished. Thanks for starting this ray!

Finished this last night and I must admit, I really enjoyed some of the stories within. I skipped over the majority of the poetry as I've never been a big fan, but I read all the short stories. My favourites are Kites and The Goddess of Sleep. I'm PMing mrsordonez today and will be sending on as soon as I have an address.

Thank you for sharing, OSC!

Yikes! I have so many bookring books to be read. Why do they all have to come at the same time??!!??!! I promise I'll get to this as soon as possible, and send out to the next reader. :)

I agree that the short stories seemed to be somewhat better than the poetry, but maybe that's because I had trouble with the symbolism. My favorite works were:

Apollo and the Seven Whores
Make Me Dazzle
Mother of Pearl
My Shadow Has Blond Hair (very moving and powerful!)
New York Public Library :P
Pushing Me Into the Past
The Cold Fish
The Fourth Child -- (just realizing the significance of the title now...)
and Two or Three Things I Know For Sure

However,

A Sun To Shine on Them
Bullet in the Brain
and July Lover

left me absolutely perplexed.

With reference to Kites! I thought it was well-written, however I felt it to be very one-sided, and would have liked to have seen the wife's perspective. You could feel the author's despair as his wife slipped away to her own world. The end seemed a little contrived, as in 1/2 page all is well again.

I didn't care much for The Goddess of Sleep, I thought it started well, but just didn't go where I was expecting it to, and the end seemed odd and unfinished to me.

The books title comes from the work "Kathy Soffia, Kathy Soffia", (p. 60) which I took little from as well. :(

All in all, it was a pretty good book. I actually was on vacation away from my husband while reading it, and a little disappointed upon coming home to "reality" which won't match up to some of the imaginary places these works left me. One of my few dabblings into erotica, although I think I'll try more now. I will send out to meshe upon receiving her address.

received today, will read quickly and journal

finished the book and will send on to next on the list.
As with others on this ring, I enjoyed the stories more than the poetry. I skipped the poetry and read only the stories that looked interesting.

My apologies for holding this up for so long... Hubby was badly burned in a fire and my life got very crazy, very quickly. At anyrate, I am sending this along to schmetterling as soon as I have an address. I liked Under The Olive Tree.
