Girl With a pearl Earring
8 journalers for this copy...
Enjoyed very much...quick read prior to the movie's release locally. Now I understand why my Dad used the phrase "cap over the windmill." :)
Sending on in a Bookray to Glasgow Girl with my compliments. See book chat for lengthy list of future recipients! This one will travel the world.
Received in the mail today! 3rd on the TBR list.
I rattled through this in less than 24 hours (it's 309 pages long) and thought it absolutely wonderful. I don't think I have a single criticism of the book. The characters are wonderfully described, the writing is eloquent and descriptive without being too OTT, the story is engaging, the ending is just right, and the book is the right length to include everything you want to know without too much waffling! I'm undecided as to whether I want to see the film or not (although predictably Colin Firth *was* Vermeer in my head!) as there are so many bits in the book about Griet's feelings and thoughts I'm not sure how it would translate onto film.
A big thank you to truthteller for including me on this ring. I'll be sending it on to Jaysgirl on my next post office run on Tuesday!

Release planned for Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at ... by mail :) in Sent to a fellow BookCrosser, Bookring Controlled Releases.
Just received this in the post. Will add to my TBR pile.
Once I got started on this book I really couldn't put it down. Initially Griet annoyed me but as I got more into the story I really liked her.
I too pictured Colin Firth as Vermeer and it has inspired me to go and see the film.
Thanks for including me in this ring. I will post onto next participant in the next few days.

This arrived this morning, thanks very much for sending it on. I will read it as soon as I can :-)
I couldn't really get into this book well enough to enjoy it or finish it. I think perhaps it was just the wrong time. I had a lot of bookrings arrive at the same time, and sometimes when it feels like you have to read a book, yoiu enjoy it less. I will probably come back to this in the future, but until then I will send this copy on to the next person on the list.
The book is on its way to tiger-lily as of this morning.
I finished this yesterday and thought it was fantastic. Although I enjoyed it, I did think it was rather sad, but it was a wonderful story with some very funny parts. The film was also very good although there wasn't room in it for a large amount of the book.
I'd just like to say thank you to truthteller for starting this bookray, and to nerfertari for including me in it.

Very enjoyable reading.I quite liked the way the creative process is described.I would love to see Vermeer's paintings "live".I just have had access to reproductions so far,but he is one of my favorite painters.

This book wasn't what I expected but was an entertaining quick read non the less. I'm sorry to say I've hung on to it much longer than necessary and longer than I intended to. It's off to the next person (Oldreader)in the ring.
