Rosenthal has created a new novel destined to become a classic for general as well as young adult readers. It tells a moving tale of two Elenas?a young girl on the brink of adulthood and her grandmother, who has vanished in the vast Wyoming landscape. A golden stallion is the thread that holds the two together. In a summer visit to her grandfather, the young Elena, who knew how to cope in Los Angeles, must learn how to come alive in the open spaces of Wyoming. As the special relationship that develops between Elena and the stallion is very realistically put to the test, Rosenthal takes a lyrical, honest look at what really matters most in life and love. A novel to be read and reread by all.

Hard to pass along, but deserves to continue being read. Reserving for Wild Things
Turns out, I had to re-read this book before I passed it on… And I am so glad I did😊
Once again, I loved this book. There is so much love, so many kinds of love, and strength, and courage all deftly told in a tale both lyrical and compelling.

And once again, I find it hard to let go of this book. But I am going to. I am going to send it off to the next reader in the small box of small books bookbox.
Wow, that got dark. Not that it wasn't telegraphed ahead of time, but still..a good example of a book featuring a young protagonist which might not be suitable for all readers Elena's age.
Overall, quite a bit more than a story of a girl who falls in love with a horse.
