Too often, claims the irrepressible and bestselling author SARK, we get caught up in duty and miss out on the sticky-dumb pleasures of life. “I frequently forget about pleasure,” SARK herself admits. Still, she knows we can all do better: “We can dance through our lives and still be ‘responsible.’ We can dive deeply into our challenges and still chortle with glee. Let’s chortle more!” With this bright, whimsical handbook, SARK guides us through life’s changes and points out simple thrills along the way.
SARK’s guidebooks -- like Living Juicy, Succulent Wild Woman, or Transformation Soup -- have all inspired us to unclench our muscles and our eyes, realizing our limitless potential. In each, she has helped us to enjoy our selves by writing with honesty and simplicity about her struggles to enjoy her self.

In this book, SARK uses the same vulnerable, personal perspective to help us enjoy and celebrate our lives. She offers us hints for holding on to joy and explores with us the possibilities for pleasure, all in her inimitable style. It reads like a passionate, sweet letter from your best friend: With pictures, workbook sections, and genuinely thoughtful stories, Eat Mangoes Naked guides us to recognize pleasure and to treasure our lives. “I invite you into expanded pleasure and the true joy in all that it is to be human,” urges SARK. “I will share my process, lessons, failings, discoveries and blessings with you. Let’s proceed into pleasure!”

What’s a bookring and how does it work?

A bookring is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. A bookring book is never released into the wild since it should end up back with the person who registered it.

To join this bookring (or any other bookring of mine) please private message me and include your location and shipping preference (US only, international, etc.). I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case it's changed since you got the book.

Once you are a bookring member, you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please), and journal again with your thoughts, ideas, or opinions on it. You’ll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it’s cheaper!) and make a release note so that we can track it. Then sit back and watch the journey continue!

The members are as follows (mailing order will change as new participants are added)

allysther in Hawaii, USA
spaceystacey in New Jersey, USA (ship to US/Canada only)
Rampallion in Illinois, USA
FlyingFish in Vermont, USA
WritinReader in Kentucky, USA
crazyladybugg in Washington, USA
chance22 in California, USA
16stepper in Arizona, USA
cytronella in Texas, USA *
Popsie in Australia
Mundoo in Australia *
pheelya in Maryland, USA
**then back to me! (I will be sending it on to a women's group in New Zealand along with my other Sark books when they all return to me.)

I truly enjoyed the book. It was a good book for me to read right now, as pressure mounts on all sides. Today I was able to put her words into action. A friend needed a ride to the airport, and while I was happy to help, I really wanted to stay home. However, becasuse of the trip I was able to 1. Try a new restaurant and 2. drive her truck, which is vastly different than my car. These are experiences I never would have had if it had not been for helping a friend, and I took a huge amount of pleasure in them.

I've sent it to spacystacy.

Update June 16: Just got back from the post office--this is on its way to the next BCer. I was so eager to get the release note made that I forgot to say what I thought of the book! SARK is wonderful as ususal. My favorite parts were the waving squirrel, the Nigerian cab driver, the note-passing, the milk bottles, and the drawing for Grace.

Released on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Controlled Release in Controlled release, to another bookcrosser Controlled Releases.

Sent to the next BCer today by mediamail. Should arrive in about a week.

Journal Entry 9 by FlyingFish from Montpelier, Vermont USA on Thursday, July 22, 2004
I'm not sure how long I've had this: I know it's been a few weeks.
Finding pleasure in difficult circumstances is a stretch for me. Even while I may preach this attitude to others, there are times when I am JUST STUCK. I will probably need to read this book again in the future when I am more receptive to it. As always I enjoy Sark, her ideas, her approach.
I'm nearly done with it and will send it on soon.

I'll likely buy a copy of this book. It's one of those that has such a positive affect on the reader that you want to have it on hand to share with others and possibly even read it again. Thanks for sharing it!

Will be on the way to crazyladybugg tomorrow.
