This is a duplicate copy which I got free with a magazine. I read all Margaret Atwood's older books in one summer and loved them. I hope someone enjoys this book. This book brings nature and memories together. It's a disturbing book, enjoyable but quite freaky.

Journal Entry 2 by perfect-circle from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 20, 2004
arrived from Robbiesmum. I will read and release this, although it may be a little while before I get round to it.

Thanks Robbiesmum

When I finished this book my first thought was "What?" I enjoyed it and up to the final quarter thought I was following it remarkably well. But the final quarter, at first, seemed utterly impossible to follow. It was only after I finished the book completely and thought through what I read it began to make sense on some level inside.
And that's how I felt with this book. On the surface I was confused and found it a little freaky but underneath it all I totally understood it.

Just received this today. Will be a couple down in the TBR pile as I'm currently reading another Atwood at the moment.

Edit 27/06/04
- I've just finished this today, and must say that I wasn't overly impressed. I absolutely loved The Handmaid's Tale, and I was hoping this would be just as good, but I just found particularly the last third to be too weird. I couldn't really see the circumstances actually happening to someone. I still appreciate Margaret Atwood's talent, but this was not one of my favourites.

This is going to head off on a bookray in the following order:

And then off into the wild!

On its way to fushmush in NSW, Australia!

Journal Entry 8 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, July 13, 2004
Received in the mail today. I am in the middle of a book at the moment but I should get to it shortly. Thanks tantan for organising the bookray!

Not my favourite Atwood novel. Like everyone else I enjoyed the first three-quarters and then I got a little confused when the protagonist became confused (wacko!). Still enjoyed Atwood's lovely writing.

Well send on to felicia-fairy when I receive an address.

Update: posted Monday 2nd August.

For the life of me, I don't remember joining this bookring! Ah... it's the surprises I love.
Behind a bit of a queue of bookrings at the moment, but it doesn't look too taxing, so will hopefully get to this soon.

I have had this book for so long as I have been trying (in vain) to get into it. It is very frustrating really, I read Alias Grace and The Handmaid's Tale and adored them - since then I have been a part of 4 other bookrings/rays for Atwood's novels and never been able to enjoy them.
Will Pm e-i-pi today, and send the book off as soon as I have an address.

Journal Entry 12 by jubby from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, October 14, 2004
Received in the post today.

Will try to read and post to Ramya within a week (currently reading one of Fushmush's bookrings).

Thank you.

Journal Entry 13 by jubby at BookRing in Bookring, A Bookring -- Controlled Releases on Tuesday, October 26, 2004
Released on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at about 2:00:00 AM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at Bookring in Bookring, A Bookring Controlled Releases.

RELEASE NOTES:

Oops!

I actually posted this last week to the next person on the list, and forgot to journal it...

I really enjoyed this book. I am a huge Margaret Atwood fan, and although I am not Canadian (but Australian), I identified heavily with the main character. The natural (native) environment, and the modern era.

The whole story reminded me of a quote I once read (Mya Angelou?) 'you can never go home'. I adored the way that the author gave voice to the internal struggles and workings of the main character, without spelling it all out for the reader.

Another great read, and I appreciate your including me in your bookring Robbiesmum. Thank you.

Journal Entry 14 by Ramya from Plainsboro, New Jersey USA on Tuesday, November 9, 2004
I received this in the mail over the weekend. It might be a month or so before I get to it -- a number of other rings ahead of it -- but I'm already intrigued by the several comments about the last 1/3 or 1/4 of the book.

Journal Entry 15 by Ramya from Plainsboro, New Jersey USA on Sunday, February 6, 2005
Odd book and quite depressing regarding male/female relationships.

This book is now packed up and ready to be shipped. I’ll get to the PO Thursday morning and make a brief journal update once the book is actually in the mail. Thanks, tantan, for sharing this book!

Journal Entry 16 by Ramya from Plainsboro, New Jersey USA on Friday, February 11, 2005
I expected to have received an address by now to allow me to ship this book out this week, but so far, no reponse. I've sent a second PM to pchemphd. If no response within a week or so, I'll move on to zzz in Serbia and Montenegro.

Journal Entry 17 by Ramya from Plainsboro, New Jersey USA on Saturday, April 30, 2005
Update: Time passes unnoticed too quickly. I've realized that it's been quite a while since I made an address request with no response, so I've moved on to zzz and sent a PM yesterday. I'm out of town tomorrow through Friday, so if I haven't received a response by then, I'll send a second PM.

Journal Entry 18 by Ramya from Plainsboro, New Jersey USA on Friday, May 13, 2005
Off to zzz in today's mail. Air mail was only 40 cents more than surface, so I splurged ;-) for quicker delivery!

Journal Entry 19 by zzz from Rakovica / Раковица, City of Belgrade Serbia on Thursday, June 2, 2005
Arrived yesterday "safe and sound" and it goes on my tbr pile (which is transforming into the mountain). Anyway, I'll start reading asap.
Ramya thank you very (!) much for lovely present!

This is Margaret Atwood!

After several failed attempts to contact mnog I decided to send this book to other BCer who has it on her wish list along with some extras for a Boxing Day.
Enjoy!
