What’s a bookray and how does it work?

A bookring is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. A bookring book is never released into the wild since it should end up back with the person who registered it. A bookray works exactly like a bookring except the book is never returned to the original owner. Much like a paper ray of sunshine, the book travels forever.

To join this bookray (or any other bookring/ray of mine) please private message me and include your location and shipping preference (US only, international, etc.). I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case it's changed since you got the book.

Once you are a bookray member, you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please), and journal again with your thoughts, ideas, or opinions on it. You’ll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it’s cheaper!) and make a release note so that we can track it. Then sit back and watch the journey continue!

The members are as follows (mailing order will change as new participants are added):

I guess maybe cause I read "Dude, Where's My Country?" first, I already knew a lot of the stuff that Moore covered in this book. That said, he did make a lot of valid points that I agree with, and did cover some material that I thoroughly agree with. I look forward to reading some of his future work when he is off the Bush topic for a change, though.

Released on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at SENT TO FELLOW BOOKCROSSER in RABCK, postal release USA.

Mailing to saoirse to start the international bookray!

Sending to fsr44 today...

I enjoyed this and probably would read other books by him. This book was clearly written just before the September 11 terrorist attack and I would like to know Moore's thoughts on that whole thing and the war that followed. As a country we've gone through a lot since this book was written and it's only been three years ago! Now we are up for another election and I intend to become more informed.

I have the same sensation when reading this book that I get when listening to Rush Limbaugh who is on the opposite end of the political spectrum. I agree with a lot of what both men say, but they both make me roll my eyes and wonder if they are living in the real world. Either way, I can't take too much of either extreme. Moore seems to think that since the Republicans (and Democrats too actually) represent the wealthy 10%, the other 90% of us can be represented with one united political party. But I think we're way too diverse to be represented by one group of interests. For instance, I don't agree with Moore's position on capital punishment. Also, I don't happen to believe there needs to be a government program for every sort of disadvantaged citizen. But Moore seems to think if one doesn't support a certain government program then one is not sympathetic to the situation or the problem. I think there are a lot of ways to solve a problem and increasing the scope and power of government should be a last resort.

thanks for including me in this bookray!

Not as good as "Dude, Where's My Country", but still an important book. The first 15 pages, detailing precisely how Bush and Co. disenfranchised FL voters to steal the election, should be required reading for all voters.

Received safe and sound in Glasgow this morning. Unfortunately it's at my parents' house as I'm in the middle of moving house myself. But I will do my best to get to it as soon as I can and get this ray moving again.

Reading this book is a bit like having someone shout facts at you continuously for a few hours! Moore has collated a vast swathe of information on Bush and the administration, and revels in the facts and figures he has. However, Moore has a very extreme point of view (IMO) and I would like to see the anti-Moore point of view presented as well in order to get a balanced overview of the state of America. As with all fanatics, he only presents one viewpoint, without the balancing side being represented at all. A lot of this book also reads as a "manual" on "how to be a good American", and as a non-American I skipped over these bits. I did find his tone very patronising in places, but again, this may be because I am reading the advice as an "outsider".

Overall this was an interesting read and it did raise a few good questions, and made you think about some of the points he raised. It is terribly outdated however, and there needs to be an Anti-Moore publication somewhere to balance the views. But overall a worthy read.

Thanks for the ray, fanclub, and I'll get it moving as soon as I get the next address.

Just read it and don't really love it.
It is too 'american' to me.
I don't agree in many ways with Michael Moore. But who am I? A little portuguese girl. ;-)

Sent to QueenSissi at 19th of January.

It was kind of difficult to "enter" this book but then I actually began to like it. It's really very sarcastic but sometimes he makes a point!!!! Sending it to Aset on Monday! Sorry for the delay!
