More than a mystery.
Thirteen-year-olds Lizzie Hood and Evie Verver, neighbors, are best friends, have been tight forever. In fact, Lizzie often feels like part of the apparently perfect Verver family, and especially loves Evie's dad. Then Evie disappears. Lizzie only remembers that Evie refused a ride home with her that day.
At first bereft and feeling helpless, Lizzie starts to remember things. When she tells Mr. Verver what she remembers he is so grateful and the investigation takes different turns. Each thing she remembers helps. She isn't so helpless after all. Yet she doesn't tell one thing she remembers. Because it makes her think differently about her friend?
Easy to believe how Lizzie feels, how she changes. Easy to grasp what happened to Evie as well. Wonderful psychological "thriller", really got inside my head.

This arrived in the mail today. Thank you for sending it to me.
Megan Abbott is an excellent story teller, the reader on the audio...not so much. I think I will have to actually read this and then come back and write my thoughts down.
Released as part of the audio book box.
Another unabridged book arrived today. Thank you for sharing this with me. I have never read anything by this author.
Did not find the story compelling. Didn't enjoy the reader. I probably won't read anything else by the author.
Enjoy! Off to dabercro as a KTM RABCK from the CD only VBB. Trust you enjoy the book.
Arrived in the mail today. Thanks!
I didn't particularly enjoy this book. The reader had a somewhat whiney quality to her voice.

Looks like the reviews are rather mixed here. I'll give this a try and see which side of the spectrum I end up in.
It's an interesting story. Teenager Lizzie's best friend disappeared, and Lizzie tries her best to help the police find her best friend. I expect it to be a thriller, but the girl's disappearance is more a backdrop or catalyst for Lizzie's growing awareness of the world - of romance, of sex, of adulthood. The story is like a car that spins a corner and then another, and when I think the ride is over, it turns the corner and there's a new vista and I am feeling dizzy and unsure where I am anymore. She challenges readers to look at things differently, and read between the lines.
Hopefully it won't be too long a wait for a bookbox to come by,
