Hemmingford is situated in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, at the base of Covey Hill. When Hemmingford was originally surveyed in 1791, it included the present Townships of Hemmingford and Havelock as well as the south eastern portion of Franklin. This area was originally settled in the year 1799 by United Empire Loyalists, followed by an influx of settlers following the 1812-1814 war from all areas of the British Isles
