This is the 12th of the DCI Alan Banks series. It involves the discovery of a horrific crime. This book is slightly different, in that we apparently know who committed them and follow the process of collecting evidence to prove it. There are also issues over just when self-defence becomes an unjustified attack. We learn more about what may cause people to be able to act in these ways towards other people and how they manage to function in normal society due to their charm, despite some occasionally odd behaviour.
