This slim softcover has been in a box of recipes in my basement for many years now, and I think it's time it went traveling. I love the idea of edible flowers, and I do sometimes add a few to my salads when the season (and the flowers!) permit, but while they're handsome to look at, they don't usually have much flavor... Still, it's nice to give them a try. And some of the recipes do provide a more hearty floral note.

Among my favorite edible flowers: borage, which has tiny star-shaped sky-blue flowers that taste (very, very faintly) of cucumber, and which look lovely scattered on a salad. (There's also summer squash, whose blossoms are large enough to saute as a dish in their own right.)

The book includes tips on variety, cultivation, and use, with occasional cautionary notes - not all flowers are safe to eat!
