When you read a lot of mystery/murder/thriller books, and you have read them since for ever, it's not easy to find some that are really great. But these - and this one is the 3rd I've read - are definitely very far from that greatness.
The stories are interesting and the rhythm is fast paced so this is why I keep reading them and even now I think I won't give up, but, please, these are not extraordinary thriller books. There are always tons of characters that make the story confusing, why do we need to always have some mystery in the past that causes that know one person is bad (there are really bad people even when their past was perfect!), and this police force seems so weak! They keep forgetting to do things they should do, they don't understand clues that even the reader can see from a distance, they take too long to find anything.
And we never know what they are finding/thinking! Patrick rememebers something, he calls someone, they discuss it (it!) and then he discovers whatever (that we aren't told about). Or someons gives him a note and we are told it has very important information on it, but of course we are not told anything about it, just wait another 50 pages, please.
Arghhhh, I get really frustratred with these books... But then they are so easy to read!
