I picked this up after enjoying the film based on it

the art work is beautiful - really gorgeous. The use of colour, which I was worried about becoming gimmicky, was really nicely handled.

I found the ending a bit over-dramatic for my taste - I preferred the end of the film which was a bit more subtle (controversial to say that, I know!)

This lucky little book is part of Spacedog's Manga/Graphic novels bookbox! :D

I really really love the cover on this. It's a tease and the colors and angle are really well done.

I'm not actually much a yuri fan. I don't go nuts for it, but I read it when I run across it. Most of yuri tends to be cutesy fluff.

I think that while it had a fantasy element too it, it still kept a lot of realism to it. There was tension and the waves of new love euphoria that come across well. There were also the harsh realities of relationships long term as well.

The story is very well done.

As for the end, I think it was a little overly dramatic and wastes the otherwise good storyline. I think they should have choosen another route.

Although I enjoyed this comic, I was left wondering why it became the sensation it did. The art is very well done, with expressive characters, lovely coloring, and smooth, flowing panel arrangement, but I wasn't grabbed as much by the story.

I didn't feel caught up in the relationship and didn't really see much chemistry between them. The characters are both interesting, but didn't seem to play off each other particularly well, and I repeatedly found myself wondering why certain events were happening (besides to create more tragedy.) Impulsive teenage behavior is an excuse that only covers so much before it starts to feel like the character's motivations are wobbly. For most of the book Clementine is obviously a young girl wrestling with some huge internal and moral concerns, but I often felt like we didn't get much of a reason for how those connected to her behavior. Looking the comic up, I see that the author spent 5 years working on it, so the extended timeframe may be one of the reasons that the pacing seems off.

I'm glad I read this, as it seems to be a bit of a modern lesbian classic and the art is very impressive, but I don't have any interest in re-reading it. Hopefully the next reader will find it more compelling!
